I have a history of three insitu melanomas and about 8 severes. Just had two biopsied and both were proliferations which the derm said is a ‘non diagnosis’ so he recommends excision. When I read the one pathology report, it later says the consensus is an ‘evolving lentigo with melanocytic hyperplasia’. Is that a Lentigo Maliga? Is that worse than plain severe?

    Hi there,

From my understanding, “lentigo” is simply doctor-ese for “a flat brown spot.” Benign liver spots, for instance, are a kind of lentigo.

There is such a thing as lentigo maligna melanoma, but that’s a different entity than a plain ol’ garden variety lentigo.

    Hope this helps,
