ParticipantTomorrow I will be finally having an excisional biopsy for a growth on the concha part of my ear. My dermatologist had referred me out to an ENT for his opinion on 2 growths. While I was at the ENT we spoke of some symptoms I was having with dizziness and tinnitus in that ear. After a hearing work up it was discovered I have unilateral hearing loss in that ear. One thing lead to another and on Monday I am going for an MRI to rule out a benign brain tumor. So besides waiting for my derm pathology to come back I will also be waiting for the results of the MRI. In the meantime I have started PT to help with my balance. Seems my eye are not working together causing strain and balance problems. New glasses should be in next week. Next week is my 1 year anniversary of my melanoma diagnosis. I am so looking forward to 2013 being a better year. So far my nerves are doing OK and I am trying to remain upbeat. My biggest concern is how they will remove a growth on my ear where there is not too much skin to work with. Has anyone had surgery on the ear concha ?

ParticipantWebbie — I am thinking of you. How did it go today and when do you expect to hear results on the biopsy and the MRI? December 11, 2012 at 2:56 pm #57889Webbie73
ParticipantI am in the “waiting” mode. Biopsy was not an excisional biopsy since it was in a very difficult place to reach. She did a punch with a few stitches. If that comes back as anything that needs a WLE then I will have to find a plastic surgeon or ENT who has experience with skin cancer. I hope to get the results on Thursday. MRI was yesterday afternoon and took an hour and half. I will get those results on Friday morning.
Thank you for asking. Like most people here I hate waiting!

ParticipantKathy, Although you are in the waiting mode, at least the procedures are done. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers over the next few days – wishing you the absolute best results! Laurie December 11, 2012 at 8:37 pm #57891marti
ParticipantHi Kathy, Hope everything will work out well for you, the waiting is so stressful. I had not read your post previously, but I had a melanoma taken out of the auricula of the ear, easier to reach then the concha, since its on the outside. The WLE took a wedge out of the outside, like a pizza slice. I was surprised how well it healed, giving the fact of the very thin skin. I was referred to an head and neck specialist, but decided to have the operation done by a regular melanoma surgeon, in which I had more trust ( a personal decision).
I am still surprised how well it looks, almost 4 years later ; hardly noticeable, every ear is differently shaped, so logically there are natural varieties, and very few people are comparing right an left ear on a person….
Wishing you a good outcome,
Marti
